Church Remodel for CTK Ferndale, WA
Ferndale church remodel: 3 strip-mall units become CTK Ferndale
Church needed new location
This Ferndale church remodel began with a small outpost church we had formed from CTK Bellingham. Our small church had been running in a middle school for 4 years. We would spend hours setting up chairs tables, kids toys, coffee and music equipment, then have church for an hour and then after, take down and drive the truck back to storage. Once a week we had "church". The pastor met his flock at the local coffee shop https://woodscoffee.com/ trying to have private sensitive meetings among the other patrons. Not the best. It was time to find our own place. The pastor asked https://wolfbuildrestore.com/ owner Franz and engineer Ryan for help finding and building a new location. He found 3 vacant strip malls spaces at Pioneer Square in Ferndale.
The remodel of 3 spaces into a church
The decision was made to move forward, and commit to remodeling the spaces. Our company was selected as the genral contractor to remodel the space. We organized the remodel, using a balance of about 80 volunteers and 12 subcontractors. We set the design and budget. Sourcing materials from Craigslist, locally and Seattle based suppliers.
Remodel scope of work
The remodel included demo of 3 spaces, framing, meeting fire life and safety demands by city code, all new interior finishes including sanctuary lighting sourced from repurposed components from the Bellevue Square Apple store remodel, a Boeing project was cancelled and we scored (15) 8' tall solid maple fire rated glass doors for $1500, plumbing and mechanical systems, 3 rooftop-mounted HVAC systems, custom details like an floating curved stage, built in sound systems, repurposing and reusing salvaged materials, including a wheel chair elevator altered to fit.
Struck Design Gold!
We poked our heads up above the dropped T-Bar ceiling and found a high vaulted roof. We removed 6000 square feet T-bar, customized the heating ductwork by removing no longer needed flex duct and retrofitting custom made grills to the HVAC trunk line. This detail really made the space!
Improving the Neighborhood
While we worked in our 3 spaces, We assembled volunteers to clean up the entire building. We landscaped and repainted the building, added exterior architectural features. We turned a neighborhood eyesore into a place that brings the community together all week long!
opened on Time
We worked hard, and by the grace of God, we opened on the date we had set 6 months earlier. Our school lease was coming to its end and we needed to finish on time! What began as a search for a new church, then finding 3 separate spaces in a run down mall, ending in a beautifully made community church home!
